The “Er Du Til Tysk” project is now running and you can find videos of Kristian and Julia Sofia trying to find out who is best fit to do a german takeover(of the splay youtube channel). This happens through a series of challenging encounters with local danish people living in Berlin, who happen to depend on the german language in their everyday work and life.
Check them out and make sure to go to www.erdutiltysk.dk where you and your school class can win a trip to Berlin. Competition ends on 13/9 2016 so hurry up.

(are you into German?) is our newest campaign launching today in collaboration with the Danish Embassy in Berlin and the German Teaches Association for business high schools. Our biggest project till this date is backed by the Danish Industry Foundation because their are definitely into German.

The campaign presents eight Danes living in Berlin who will share their affection for Germany and the german language. These eight people will be german language ambassadors whom students can meet on their study trip to Berlin. Our hope is to establish first hand connections between students and people who use German on a day to day basis.

The campaign will take the shape of a road movie in eight episodes created in cooperation with two of Denmarks best Youtubers, Julia Sofia and Christian “Stupid” Aagaard. Julia Sofia and Christian have a tight and honest connection with their more than 200.000 subscribers and we are very much looking forward to work with them. The road movie will launch on Splay Networks Youtube channel this fall and we will simultaneously publish educational material in connection with the films.

We collaborate with the German Teachers Association for business high schools and high schools in Denmark, the Danish-German Chamber of Commerce and the German Embassy in Denmark. Our ambition is to have more young Danes be interested in Germany and the German language and give them an opportunity to find out how they can be in to German.

Follow the campaign here, soon we it will be on Facebook and Instagram as well, search for “Er du til Tysk?”.

Kickstarter Campaign: Street Art Bingo!

Friday the 16th of October we launched our project Street Art Bingo on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. Crowdfunding is an alternative way of funding, where you raise donations from a large number of people instead of finding a single investor. They as a thank you receive a reward.

We have been playing Street Art Bingo in the streets of Kreuzberg for two years and now we want to create a digital version of the game. The new app will have a stronger focus on collaborative learning, new assignments and a more challenging game experience. In short – it will be different!

We will need all the help we can get – by donating to the project, but also by sharing it with the world. Any kind of support by sharing on websites, social media or mouth to mouth will make us very happy!

The Kickstarter campaign began October 16th and will continue until November 15th. You can read more about the project and our fabulous rewards on our Kickstarter project page. And/or get the short version in the video!

Getting ready for Kickstarter

Getting ready for Kickstarter

We  have been working overtime for the last couple of weeks trying to get ready for what hopefully will be the next level of the Dönerkind-enterprise: The Street Art Bingo App! Check out our fabulous logo made by our talented friend and graphic designer Mette Krogsgaard Højlund/Ungtblod.

We are almost ready to press launch on the Kickstarter-button, which will be up and running from Friday the 16th of October until the 15th of November. The Kickstarter video is almost ready and is currently being edited by another very talented friend and film maker Adam Luxton.

Our whole team is right now testing different types of rewards to offer our Kickstarter-pledgers for their support, among them the gym you see below with the beautiful döner, drawn by yet another talented friend and concept artist, Jeppe Sørensen.

The chances are, if you are reading this you probably like us and what we do, and we are not shy to admit we  really need the help from all of our friends and followers.

If you are in Berlin this Friday (16/10) come join us on Emser Str. 43, 12051 Berlin, for our big launch party. If not, we would love it if you would spread the word about our project on Facebook, Twitter, websites and other relevant places the following month; this will hopefully give us the push we need to make our Street Art Bingo-dream come true.

Thanks!

Today we began filming our video for our forthcoming Kickstarter project: The Street Art Bingo App. Kickstarter is a crowdfunding platform, which will hopefully help us turn our Street Art Bingo into a Street Art Bingo App for smartphones.

With a lot of help from our documentarist-friend Adam and a group of enthusiastic school children from Albertslund Lilleskole (photos with kids will follow!), we got some great documentation of the Street Art Bingo experience, which means getting insight in the street art scene of Kreuzberg while competing with other students to find most street art pieces.

We’ll launch our Kickstarter project mid October. Wuhuuuu!

Vi søger en freelance underviser!

nvrqq

Next Eat the Wall Tour: July 11th, 2015 (Saturday)

garlic mustard

Our Eat the Wall tour last Saturday was fun, and we want to do it again!

So, if you want to find out what this plant is called, how it tastes and how to use it, join us at our next Eat the Wall tour, next Saturday, July 11th at 12 a.m.

We meet at Treptower Park, by the Stern & Kreisschiffahrt building, on our bikes and will go together to the old No Man’s Land, forage greens and turn them into delicious food.

Please let us know by Thursday, July 9th, if you want to join us: hey(at)doenerkind.com

The tour is paid by donations: Give what you want :-)

Eat the Wall // Mauersalat // Recipe

This weekend, we tried out our newest adventure: Eat the Wall!

As a part of the B_Tour festival, we explored the former no man’s land between east and west Berlin. Parts of this formerly marginal, controlled, lifeless place are now transformed into green paths crossing the centre of the city, where wild herbs, sprouts and plants grow.

During the tour, the participants collected urban greens, learned how to use them and listened to stories from Berliners, who lived on both sides of the wall.

The last stop of the tour was a communal meal based on the green treasures collected during the tour, and together we created The Mauer Salat!

This tour of course changes according to the season, so we can’t guarantee that you can go out and find the same greens as we did, but you might, and for that purpose we will share the recipe with you:

  • Ground Elder (the young, light green leaves)
  • Yarrow leaves (the lighter green, the better)
  • Garlic Mustard (light green leaves)
  • Rocket
  • Sorrel
  • Evening primrose (the young flower buds)
  • Cherries

… And a couple of more plants we found along the way. We mixed herbs with some romaine lettuce and honey roasted walnuts. For the dressing we used elderflower vinegar, hip rose syrup, mustard, salt and pepper. The elderflower and hip rose were foraged two weeks in advance and prepared from home.

We had a schnapps, or three (made from vodka infused with St. John’s Wort, Yarrow and Oak buds) to warm us on during the tour and a glass of white wine with the salat.

Guten Appetit!

New Faces @doenerkind!

(null)

When your company consists of only two people, it’s not that difficult to grow. Still, we are very proud of our 100% human growth these days: With us this spring we have a new intern, Mads, and a new teacher, Morten.

Mads is taking some time off from his studies (history and philosophy), and we are very glad that he has chosen to spend some of it with us! He will mainly be helping us develop new experiences and looking over some of the established ones to see if they might have potential for improvement. When he is not with us, he’s playing music – have a listen over here.

Morten is a teacher in history and mathematics, who has chosen to settle down in Berlin for (more or less) good. You can meet him on several of our experiences, but he will also be helping us getting new ideas and shaping them into something meaningful.

Hooooooray for the four of us!

Happy new year!

frankfurter_allee_2015

We hope you have had a wholesome Christmas and a smashing new year! We certainly did.

Highlights: New raincoat, woollen socks from Grandma and enough food and confetti to keep us warm until spring!

We look forward to showing you new sides of Berlin, which we are spending most of our time on in the January-February cold: Developing new educational experiences. At the moment we are working on a new startup-workshop suited for students who are interested in innovation and the “startup-scene”. Tuesday we had our first workshop in this new format, where we and our students ate tapas and spoke Spanish (hola), came up with four new business ideas and learned about financial curves for a startup-business.

More on that and pictures will follow very soon!

Have a great weekend :-)

Winter make-over

Okay. So we thought we would give our site a little winter make-over. This means two things: First of all, we are updating our educational experiences, because a lot has happened since we began a little more than a year ago; secondly, we are translating it into english, since we no longer only serve the wonderful Danes.

This basically means: It’s a bit messy at the moment – bear with us!

Cabbage and sausages

20140305-102323.jpg
Okay. This is my absolute favorite so far. Yesterday these goodies stood on our doorstep. Or, to be more specific, the cabbage rolls did; our lovely neighbor was on her way up to her apartment again, when we opened the door, which made her go up and fetch an already opened can of sausages that her grandson hadn’t eaten. With the lid still inside.

The cabbage rolls are delicious.

I wonder what we should bring her?

Presents from nextdoor

Presents from next door

Back in November we moved to a new apartment in Neukölln, and a few days after we moved in, our 1st floor neighbor gave us some sweet bread as a present. How nice, we thought, and then after a bite: Well, it was a nice gesture.

Over time she has put quite a lot of home-made food presents on our doorstep, and at some point we began documenting them. These goodies (including a paste tasting kind of like ajvar, and then again not really) are from just after christmas and they are long gone by now. And today we got a new one – we’ll be posting it very soon!

Sourdough

Surdej 2Surdej-3-300x225Surdej-5-300x225surdej-1-300x225Surdej 2Surdej-3-300x225

Last friday we had our so far biggest event. A workshop with the students from Madakademiet in Copenhagen and five of the coolest food people we know in Berlin. We had fun and got our brains wrapped around some pretty interesting topics. We’ll post a blog with all the guests soon.

As a thank you to our guests we gave them a sourdough and promised to write instructions on how to feed and use it. And so here goes.

Feeding/refreshing:

1 part sour dough is mixed with 2 parts of water and 2parts of flour. Which also means you should bake with, otherwise you will within the end of year need to clean out your closet for your humongous sour dough.

Example:

  • 1 dl sour dough
  • 2 dl water
  • 1 dl wheat flour
  • 1 dl whole grain wheat flour

Mix them together until it is neat and lean. Leave it on your kitchen table and stir it once a day. And do this every 5-6 days.

Baking a really good bread (from the Danish bread-magician Meyer):

  • 150g whole grain wheat flour
  • 450 wheat flour, sifted
  • 5-6 cups of cold water
  • 5 g yeast
  • 15 g salt
  • 3 tbsp. sourdough

Step 1: Put the yeast, salt, whole grain flour and sourdough into the water and mix it. Add the sifted wheat flour and stir it all together.

Step 2: ‘Hit’ the dough with a big wooden spoon. Stir it hard while lifting it and pulling it. Imagine that you inflate it the same way you inflate cream when you whip yourself. Ish. Have a break once in a while – it’s hard work! Knead it for 10 minutes or until the ‘windowpane effect’ is achieved (where the dough can be stretched until it is so thin that it becomes transparent).

Step 3: Put the dough into a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp tea towel and let it prove, preferably 12 hours in the refrigerator. You won’t notice as much of a rise in the dough as you would with a normal, yeasted bread and it will take a lot longer.

Step 4: Turn out the dough onto a clean kitchen surface and knock it back. Portion the dough into two and shape into two ball-shaped loaves. Leave it to prove on backing paper for further 2½ hours.

Step 5: Preheat the oven to 250C. Pour a few glasses of water into a baking tin and place in the bottom of the oven to create steam. Turn the loaves out onto a baking tray or a preheated baking stone. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a good crust has formed and the loaves sound hollow when you tap it on the bottom.

That’s it – eat it with lots of butter and/or cheese and/or jam!

2014

2014

#bodil tog vores sidste cyklister

#bodil tog vores sidste cyklister
